Lesson
East opens 2D, a weak two bid. Since he is in first seat you tend to expect him to have a six card suit. In third seat, he might be guilty of doing this with only five. The South hand is not worth bidding. 3C would be a huge overbid as would 2NT. But passing is only temporary. You may have another chance. North doubles and you have a choice to make. This hand was not good enough to bid with earlier but now that you know partner has points, all of your broken holdings have come into their own. Bidding 3NT is sensible. Hopefully your partner will have a good eleven count for you. Even if he has a minimum, you have well placed diamond honors and you have a long suit. You might make 3NT with fewer than normal values. West leads the nine of diamonds. You cover with the ten and East covers with the jack. Question: Can you make 3NT?
