Lesson
South opened 1D and North responded with 1S. You, East, have a full opening bid with a good heart suit but it is still correct to pass. Balanced hands are scary because if you do not find some values in partner's hand, you can go down a lot. Since East is vulnerable, his pass is clear. South rebids 1NT and that ends the bidding. East might consider bidding 2H at the end of the auction and if you chose that bid, it is not terrible. But, do remember that you are still vulnerable and you have no assurance that your partner will have any hearts for you. South, for instance, could have four of them. West leads the nine of spades. South plays low from dummy and you win with the queen. Two questions: How many points does your partner have? What is your next play?
